Eastern Maine Medical Center Celebrates Topping Out of Modernization Project

Bangor, ME – The Construction Management joint venture between Maine-based Cianbro Corp. and Alabama-based Brasfield & Gorrie recently topped out the Eastern Maine Medical Center’s (EMMC) new eight-story modernization project patient tower in Bangor.

The modernization project consists of a new 361,000sf patient tower that will support a state-of-the-art sterile processing department, main lobby, heart center, surgical suite, NICU, and three floors of private patient rooms.

The project was designed by MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health and utilizes evidence-based design in its approach to patient-centered care. It is a Center for Health Design Pebble Project member. The project is sited to take advantage of the expansive views of the nearby river and is designed to accommodate future growth at EMMC.

Completion of Phase 1 of the project is scheduled for early 2016, with the full project completion scheduled for early 2017.

Located in Bangor, EMMC serves communities throughout Central, Eastern, and Northern Maine. Under community direction, it has grown from a five-bed general hospital into a comprehensive, 411-bed medical center. The medical center and its staff provide three-quarters of the primary-care hospital.
