COVID-19 Update: Construction Deemed ‘Essential Business’ in New Hampshire

Concord, NH – Associated Builders and Contractors New Hampshire/Vermont (ABC NH/VT) issued the following update regarding New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s Emergency Order #17, requiring all non-essential businesses to shut down, effective March 27:

Under Sununu’s emergency order, construction is deemed an essential business under the definition of a “Community-Based Essential Function,” which includes construction workers who support the construction, operation, inspection, and maintenance of construction sites and construction projects (including housing construction).

Several other jobs are listed as well. Click here to read through to find what’s applicable to your unique business practices.

This executive order makes it clear all businesses must develop strategies, procedures and practices to allow for social distancing protocols consistent with CDC and Department of Health guidance. Workers with the ability to telecommute should do so. The order shall remain in effect until May 4.

On March 25, ABC NH/VT issued a letter to NH Governor Sununu asking for construction to be deemed an essential business. The organization also issue a similar call on Vermont Governor Phil Scott. That letter can be found here.
