Community School of the Arts Completed

Glastonbury, CT – Cheryl Newton Architects LLC announced the completion of its latest project, the newly renovated and expanded Community School of The Arts (CSA) located in Mansfield.

The town of Mansfield hosted a Grand Opening event on Oct. 27 where the town, project donors and the design team welcomed the community to celebrate the official opening of the CSA, that is housed in the historic Eagleville Schoolhouse.

The CSA has a rich 35-year history of providing UCONN sponsored community-based programs. In 2014, the university partnered with Mansfield Parks and Recreation to continue offering a diverse array of high-quality instruction in the arts. Through a generous donation from a private citizen, the historic Eagleville Schoolhouse was renovated for the purpose to house future programming for the CSA.

Cheryl Newton Architects (CNA) provided full architectural and engineering design services (working with Consulting Engineering Services, GNCB Consulting Engineers, and Lenard Engineering) for a 2,100sf addition and 1,500sf renovation of existing space to the historic 1900’s schoolhouse.

With the goal of bringing the CSA program under one roof, CNA started with a blank piece of paper, envisioning a bright and airy community space with recital rooms, instruction rooms, a new lobby and display area.

The new facility will be filled with a community who has a passion for the arts and education that will continue for years to come.
