Milton, MA – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named CDR Maguire Inc. as a winner of a 2018 Bronze Engineering Excellence Awards for work on the SR 0136-G10 Bridge Replacement project in Washington County, Penn.

CDR Maguire was chosen by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to lead the design and construction of the replacement of the SR 0136-G10 bridge over Little Chartiers Creek as industry leaders in the use of Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods to streamline the bridge replacement.

The project replaced a 70-year-old, 210-foot-long, four-span bridge with a new two-span, 206-foot-long bridge. Replacing the bridge presented several design challenges including constructability, longitudinal and transverse UHPC closure pours, negative moment reinforcing, deflections during precasting, and crane sizing.

Using precast concrete elements, and Prefabricated Bridge Units (PBUs), the typical 6 to 9-month detour duration was reduced to just 24 days. The high-volume road was closed on September 7, 2016 and then re-opened to traffic on September 30, 2016.

The awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth J. Larkin, PE, MBTA Assistant General Manager for Capital Delivery and Housamm (“Sam”) H. Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort Director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs.
