Hampden, MA – C.E. Floyd Company, a general contractor and construction manager, and TMS Architects have completed a major upgrade of the Hampden Country Club.

The team continues to work at GreatHorse on the 17,500sf banquet hall scheduled to open this fall.

The new 25,000sf clubhouse and golf course opened in May. The clubhouse is a blend of the western Arts and Crafts and New England farmhouse styles.

“The design concept is one to invoke the feeling of being gently worn, like a comfortable pair of leather boots, yet maintaining a timeless elegance through rustic woodworking and modern amenities,” commented TMS project architect Jason Bailey.

Clubhouse amenities include men’s and women’s locker rooms with steam rooms and saunas, separate men’s and women’s member lounges, spa and treatment room, exercise room, conference room, pro shop, two golf simulators, dining room with indoor and outdoor seating, bar and lounge, and club room.

Other amenities include an 18-hole golf course; driving range; practice greens; swimming pool with pool house, splash pad, and playground; tennis hut with two tennis courts, four paddle tennis court; and an outdoor ice rink.

From commissioned artwork to the tabletop inlays, the furniture and artwork tastefully feature horse themes inspired by the Antonacci family’s passion for horse racing. The showpiece of the collection is the glass chandelier designed by world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.

“C.E. Floyd and TMS truly had a collaborative approach to the delivery of this project,” said C.E. Floyd’s Senior Project Manager Kevin Boyle. “It’s not everyday you get to construct a building of this type; the high end nature of the design made it exciting to build.”

“The sculpture hangs in repose in the upper rotunda, where members can view the intertwining swirls of glass from all sides,” commented Bailey.

The physical setting is also picturesque. The view of the golf course, the distant Berkshires and the stunning sunsets leave guests breathless.

C.E. Floyd Superintendent Mike Mertz added, “Together with TMS, we saw the Antonaccis’ vision and delivered on it.”

“We left the idea of a traditional Country Club behind and created a ‘Lifestyle Club’. The idea was to create an enjoyable experience, one where you can come, kick your shoes off, relax and not have to worry about the rules,” states the GreatHorse Facebook page.

The Antonacci family bought Hampden Country Club at an auction in 2012 with plans to give the golf course a facelift. Plans changed, and they decided to upgrade the entire facility. The Antonaccis hired TMS Architects of Portsmouth, N.H., and directed TMS to the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole for inspiration. TMS also drew inspiration from another Jackson Hole resort: the Shooting Star Resort.
