Foxboro, MA –  Classes are underway at the newly renovated Burrell Elementary School in Foxboro after CTA Construction Managers completed Phase I of a $25.9 million renovation and expansion project, enabling the community’s “hybrid learning” return-to-school plan that calls for students to be in the building every day.

The completed Phase I includes two building additions, new electrical services and a new heating plant. The additions include new Pre-Kindergarten classroom space and a new gymnasium that will be used as temporary classrooms and swing space while permanent classrooms are renovated in Phases 2 and 3.

Foxboro teachers began occupying and working in the renovated Burrell Elementary at the end of August. Classes began under the town’s “hybrid learning” plan on Sept. 14.

In addition to the Pre-K and new gymnasium, CTA will create a new computer lab and media center and new music and art spaces. New windows and roofing will also be added. The project’s second and third phases are scheduled for completion by August 2021.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority awarded the town of Foxboro a $14.7 million grant for renovation of the Burrell Elementary School. The balance of the total project budget – $25.9 million – will be covered by the municipality.
