Bowdoin Completes Tufts Renovation AOW – Designed by Moser Pilon Nelson

Bowdoin Construction of Needham Heights recently completed the renovation of Tufts University’s Cousens Gymnasium.

Medford, MA – Bowdoin Construction of Needham Heights recently completed the renovation of Tufts University’s Cousens Gymnasium.

The project, designed by Moser Pilon Nelson Architects, encompassed the rotation of the basketball court and bleachers, as well as the addition of a new exterior handicapped ramp at the main entrance to the gym.
The primary purpose of the renovation was to rotate the existing court 90 degrees in order to meet the NCAA’s required dimensions for tournament play.  This required the complete demolition and replacement of the wood floor, removal of a section of the concrete bleachers, the addition of new retractable bleacher seats, the relocation of the basketball hoops and the relocation of the Jumbotron.
Also included in the project was a new fire protection system, upgraded life safety systems, relocation of existing gym light fixtures and increasing fixture count, a new sound system, a new unisex handicapped toilet on the first floor, construction of equipment storage space, renovation of the existing main entrance lobby, public toilets, and coaches’ offices.
