Boston – The annual AGC MA Safety Breakfast & Awards sponsored by Aon Construction Services Group was recently held at at the Club at Boston College with special guest speaker Lt. Paul Fitzpatrick, Boston Fire Department Construction Inspection Unit.
Bob Kunz, AGC MA Safety Committee Chair, Corporate Safety Director at Dimeo Construction Company addressed attendees to talk about a new program. The AGC of America Education and Research Foundation and Keene State College agreed to pursue funding to develop a Construction Safety Minor and BS within the existing Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences program to address the growing demand for emerging safety professionals in construction trades. Mike O’Brien, Vice Chair, Chair of the Advisory Council, AGC MA, and Chris Ziegler, AGC MA Director of Safety also addressed the group.
AGC MA was, for the first time, honored with the AGC of America Chapter Safety Award. The AGC Chapter Safety Awards are based on a weighted average of participation and the overall incident rate of the chapter’s general contractor members. Each chapter is divided into 4 divisions: less than 50 general contractor members, 50-100 general contractor members, 100-200 general contractor members and over 200 general contractor members.
The National Safety Award recognizes firms that have developed and successfully implemented industry-leading safety standards across its portfolio of work. The award program incentivizes construction firms to evaluate and improve existing safety standards. In order to qualify for a Safety Award, an AGC member firm must participate in the AGC Safety Awards Program for three consecutive years and have either zero lost-day incidence cases, or an average incidence case rate 25% below the average rate of all firms that participate in that particular division
