One North Sets Standard in Urban Design

image004-2Chelsea, MA  – One North of Boston, a joint venture between Gate Residential Properties and TransDel Corp., has set the standard in interior design for new urban residential developments.  Featuring resin infused bamboo flooring, quartz countertops and one-of-a-kind mosaic light fixtures, One North of Boston offers an innovative combination of style and sophistication, unlike any other development around.

“It was extremely important to us that the interior design of the units and the communal space truly represent the new style of living that reflects the up-and-coming city of Chelsea and lifestyle of One North,” said Damian Szary of Gate Residential. “From the gourmet kitchens in each unit to the custom made light pendants in the lobby, the visuals set the tone for this property— it truly is vibrant, urban living.”

Dennis Duffy, Principal of Boston area Duffy Design Group, is One North’s interior designer. Duffy works on projects in Boston’s most sought-after neighborhoods. He views interior design as a marriage of art and science and has applied that vision to the One North project.

One of the most spectacular elements of Duffy’s design is the eight custom, one-of-a-kind mosaic light pendants that hang in the One North lobby. The pendants vary in size and shape, ranging between 100 to 200 pounds each. Duffy collaborated with Ayre Lighting in South Easton, MA and Artaic, a local company based out of South Boston to manufacture the pendants. Artaic specializes in mosaic tile installations and like Duffy, sees the beauty that comes from combining science and technology with art and tradition. They even used a robot named Bertha to select and assemble the tiles on the light fixtures based on a programmed image.

”The lobby has such grand scale and geometry, with 20 foot ceilings, that we wanted to create something that provided an artistic focus and acted as an ambient light source.  Using the glass mosaic pendants was a perfect way to achieve both goals,” said Dennis Duffy, Principal of Duffy Design Group.  “The patterns, based on traditional fabric patterns, but used in vivid colors, really makes a bold statement and sets the tone for the design throughout the project.”

One North of Boston is a $50 million residential development in Chelsea.  It is located in a vibrant neighborhood close to restaurants and shops, while also being just steps away from the commuter rail, which is only one stop from Boston.  The development features 230 units, including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom flats.  The sleek apartments offer an innovative combination of style and sophistication that defines urban living in Chelsea.
